About the Teacher

My name is Stacy Gilsdorf, and I teach fourth grade mathematics and science at Bagdad Elementary School.

I grew up in Durango, Colorado, and moved to Arizona in 1988.  I got married and started my family before returning to school.  In 2008, I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.

After graduation from NAU, I taught for three years at a small school on the Navajo Reservation.  My family and I moved to Bagdad in June 2013, and I have taught 4th grade since then.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my time teaching here at Bagdad Elementary School.  I look forward to this year. I have two children who have graduated from Bagdad High School, as well as two other grown children.

Math Practice

Each week students will be practicing a specific set of multiplication facts. Please have your child practice those specific facts at home that week as well. There will be daily timed practice on these specific facts. Once a week, there will be a timed test on all the facts. This way, we can chart progress. Once a quarter, students will take a timed multiplication test that will be entered in the gradebook. We will finish all the multiplication facts through 10 in the first seven weeks of school. Then, we will work on 11 and 12. When we finish multiplication, we will move on to division.

Arizona Math Standard Number 3.OA.C.7 states:

Fluently multiply and divide with 100. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all multiplication products through 10x10 and division quotients when both the quotient and divisor are less than or equal to 10.

This is NOT skip counting. The students should know these facts automatically.
